Shamanic practice is perhaps the oldest form of spiritual practice and shamanic healing methods are the oldest form of healing in humankind. Evidence of this has been found in oral histories, ancient writings and artifacts dating as far back as 20-40,000 years. Such information has been found on every continent of the earth.
Michael Harner PhD, cultural anthropologist and founder of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies investigated over 1100 indigenous cultures. Over the past 50 years, he has experienced first-hand and experimented with the many forms of shamanic divination and healing. In that process, he has identified universal shamanic spiritual practices and healing methods- ones that have been understood and practiced on practically every continent worldwide. These are designated by Michael Harner as Core Shamanic Practices.
While honoring practices and traditions that are specific to particular cultures around the world, the Foundation for Shamanic Studies makes available the Core Shamanic Practices for use in today’s world. This body of knowledge is a global cultural inheritance for all people to investigate and utilize regardless of ethnicity, religious beliefs and cultural traditions.
As a Guest Faculty Member of FSS, I am happy to be able to offer Michael Harner’s The Way of the Shaman®: The Basic Workshop in the San Luis Obispo county area of California, and in Santa Barbara, as well as advanced trainings in San Luis Obispo.
I also sponsor FSS workshops in Santa Barbara, California, taught by Amanda Foulger, Senior FSS Faculty member

Hello.
I am looking to receive training in introductory shamanism. What course do you suggest?
Thank you.
Wendy
Hi Wendy- I suggest viewing the website for the Foundation for Shamanic Studies:
http://www.shamanism.org. There you will find many articles describing Core Shamanism as well as the descriptions of the course offerings available. Then you may view the calendar to find the workshops being offered this year. You will need to begin with The Way of the Shaman: The Basic Workshop, which will prepare you for the advanced practices.
